IN RESPONSE
ECHO - MATTER - SYNC
Design does not occur in a vacuum. It is an ongoing dialogue and is a physical response to the pressures, memories and habits that shape our daily lives.
InResponse brings together graduating students from the Royal College of Art's MA
Design Products programme, presenting design as an active form of inquiry rather than simply an act of object-making. Across furniture, lighting, craft and interactive media, the exhibition explores how emerging designers respond to the complexities of the world around them.
ECHO considers diaspora, memory and heritage, giving physical form to ancestral rituals, personal stories, folklore and inherited crafts as they travel, adapt and find new resonance.
MATTER explores the behaviour and limitations of materials, drawing on natural forces, unstandardised geometries, workshop knowledge and industrial waste to discover forms through making.
SYNC examines the relationship between body, mind and space, developing adaptive and sensory responses to how we move, focus, interact and live alongside technology.
Together, the works demonstrate design as a process of continual response shaped by friction, discovery and the realities of everyday

ONE TOOL ONE STOOL
One Tool, One Stool is the first design exercise undertaken by every student on the Royal College of Art's MA Design Products programme. Working with a single tool and a set of strict constraints, students are challenged to create a stool, using limitations as a starting point for experimentation and discovery.
The exercise asks students to consider how much can be achieved with very little, encouraging resourcefulness and a direct relationship between thinking and making.
Each response reveals a different approach to materials, construction and problem-solving.
Presented alongside InResponse, the graduate showcase, the exhibition traces the arc of a design education-from its earliest exercise to its most developed projects.
Responding to Brompton Design District's Perfectly Imperfect theme, One Tool, One Stool foregrounds process over outcome, showing how constraints, mistakes and unexpected discoveries can become catalysts for creative thinking.
